John Henline -
South Carolina Horse Community
Just 5 minutes north of downtown Camden and a few minutes "hack" to Hunt Country, affords the
discriminating equestrian the open space of trusteed land conversancy as well as the support of a Horse Community
that has embraced equestrian sports of all kinds for over a century.
Come enjoy the climate, the culture, the history and the sport of horses in one of the
Carolina's oldest Horse Communities. Parcels starting at 10+ Acres on over 1,000+ covenant protected acres of
gently rolling upland terrain.
Camden has been a "horse town" since the early 1900s when people flocked to the area for the
mild climate, the excellent year-round footing, the once grand hotel accommodations, direct train access, polo
fields, and golf course, horse racing and an abundance of game. Horse sport enthusiasts continue to come to Camden
today for the mild winters and excellent footing, as well at the abundant modern equestrian sports venues: The
Camden Hunt, the Colonial and Carolina Cups, the National Steeplechase Museum, Camden Cup Polo, the Equestrian
Center and Entertainment Complex, as well as several public and private training tracks and stables.
During the winter as many as 1500 Thoroughbreds are in residence in the area training centers. And while
Thoroughbreds account for 50% of the horse population, Saddlebreds, Quarter Horses, Warmbloods, Ponies, Arabians,
Tennessee Walking Horses, Morgans, will be found in local show grounds competing in their varied disciplines.
You'll find here the ideal setting for whatever your equestrian pursuits, whether you are a serious competitor or
weekend pleasure rider, if your passion is hunters, dressage, polo, driving, saddle horses, or trail riding.
